‘Rolly Polly’ Purse
This is a funny one because the lack of documentation. I had a vision that i did not have time to draw I just had to make it... but anyway, It started as a seashell purse, as you can see in Figure 0.1, which was X’ed out because of logistic reasons, material didnt work with shape. I quickly transitioned to a rolly polly purse and became obsessed with the idea. Here is how I made a rolly polly purse.
Constructing the purse
step 1. got my hands on some iridescent acrylic,
step 2. cut it into 12 triangles and 6 rectangular faces.
step 3. taping them together to get a visual of how it will stack together
step 4. sheet metal. make hinges and corners. bend them to fit.
step 5. nuts + bolts, 2 on each face to secure the hinges.
Chain making:
step 6. metal wire. double wrap with a drill, spin the two rows of wire together to strengthen bond.
step 7. wrap the chain around an object that is tubular in nature.
step 8. you have a swirly wire, make cuts all the way down the swirl from the same spot. now you have some rings for the chain!
step 9. attach rings to make chain. attach chain to purse.
step 10. taadaaa!!!! you’ve got a rolly polly purse!
